I had my first visit to the Emergency Room in Omak this week. I don't want to do that again! I split my head open on the fireplace brick wrestling with Daddy and boy did it hurt. They had to hold me down to put the stitches in and it took 4 grown people to do it. I only needed two stitches, but came home with four new stickers! Here are the gory details:

The winter was great - but it is equally great to be into Spring! Getting to play in the garden, see the beautiful flowers, and go camping is a great relief from being inside all the time...

Winter Wonderland & Happy Holidays

This has been a most excellent Winter in the Methow so far. Many feet of snow has fallen and we are living under a blanket of white that is good for skiing, snowshoeing, sledding, and snowmen.

The holiday season treated us very well, with lots of quality family and friend time, plus the pleasures of vacation and holiday leave. Quin has fallen in love with winter and the Holiday Ho Ho Ho season, and he's decided maybe Santa is his friend after all (even though he looks a little scary in person).

We hope all of you are well in the beginning of 2011, and we look forward to getting to love, grow, and be together through the New Year!

The white of winter that we love about our home area is upon us already. Hopefully this is a sign of many more white days to come. We've got our skis tuned, and Quin has a new pair he is dying to try out. We've got a sled too!

The big #2 birthday is on its way, as are our favorite family holidays. We're excited for the good eating and playing with cousins to come. We hope everyone has a happy holiday season and we're excited to keep blogging at you in the New Year (2011)!!!

This winter is panning out to be consistent with the predictions of the weather heads - at least so far! We're enjoying the pre-Thanksgiving snow... Hopefully it stays playable (aka - skiable and sledable) so we don't get cabin fever too soon.

Autumn came on slowly with an extended Indian summer. 80 degree weather in early October and the tomatoes stayed on the vine until just before Halloween. The debate is out as to whether the fall colors were good this year, but we think they were spectacular and they just kept coming. The leaves are finally falling and we are starting fires at night, so Autumn must have finally arrived.

Highlights from early Autumn include the Okanogan County Fair and Harvest season at the home garden and at our cooperative farm the Beaver Creek Keepers where we took home over 100 lb of onions, 200 lb of tomatoes, 20 + squash, cabbages and more! I love eating all the beets mom and dad grew for me!

We have had visits from both sets of grandparents, what fun. But the biggest event this fall is that I started School! I go to the Toddler program at Little Star Montessori in Winthrop...AND I LOVE IT. I have lots of playmates there and really nice teachers. There is big jungle gym, bicycles, and big sand box. Mom built me a sandbox at home too, so I have really enjoyed the prolonged nice weather.

Last week was Halloween and we had a party. Can you guess what we were? Stay tuned for more happenings before the snow flies.

May - June: Rain, Flowers & Patio Construction

They say April showers brings May flowers, but this year April was dry and windy and paved the way for a cool, wet spring and the rain is holding back the brown hills as things are still green around here. It's good the irrigation water didn't come on until June 1, since we didn't need it. In fact, we continue to see rain a few days/ week, interrupted by brief sunny warm days, but nothing to call summer yet. We wait.....but the rain has been good for the garden, the rivers, and Sarah's allergies. The heat will come and when it does, we will cry "couldn't we just get a day of rain".

Patio construction is in full swing, though slow. After spending every free moment shoveling dirt, Hans finally relented and rented the back-hoe from the feed store....and we had a blast excavating the patio area. Quin loves to get dirty, so the big pit has been a treasure of a playground. We are going to pour a slab soon, after the gravel comes, and then finally by August we might have a patio. What have we done with all the dirt?....we've created a series of berms through the yard that will be landscaped in the next few years.

On another topic, Moshi and Quin have come into a mutual understanding that leaving one another alone is probably best for them both. Moshi is in Kindergarten for puppies, and doing quite well. She can sit, stay, come (sometimes), lay down and generally listens when being beckoned especially if treats are involved.

Banks Lake with Methow Friends

Five families and five babies and four dogs hit the beach at Banks Lake for a warm weekend in May. Activities included wading the water, canoeing, hiking to caves, hiking to take clay baths and looking for clay-babies (warped clay stones), wildflower viewing, fishing, sand castles, horse-shoes and tons of yummy food.

Moshi, the new puppy!

Moshi is a 9 week old black female puppy who is half German Sheppard and half retriever. We picked her up at the Twisp Saturday Market last weekend, from a box full of puppies who needed homes. That saved us a trip to the pound in Wenatchee, so it must have been destiny! Quin and Moshi are extremely cute together, but we'll let the pictures do the talking there...

My cousins the Ralstons came out to visit over Easter Weekend. We had some fresh snow and wild spring weather to add to the craziness of 4 boys running around. There was lots of fun to be had sledding, skiing, eating tacos and ham, and mountain biking. We had a big Easter Egg hunt at our friends the Kogut's on Studhorse Mountain near Winthrop. We got lucky and got to spend a quick weekend in Sun Valley with Grandma P and Grandpa M. We had great weather, great skiing, fun skating (ice and nordic), and just a plum good ol' time. It was great seeing Uncle Greg and the Taylors as well.

Marching Like a Lion

March has turned out to be Spring this year! We've been enjoying many warm sunny days outside, listening to the squirrels and the birds, playing with the neighbor's chickens, and planning our new irrigation system and this coming season's garden. I'm super into throwing rocks, playing with sticks, jumping off of stuff, and finding creative ways to get really dirty. Inside I'm into playing instruments (guitar, harmonica, drums...), listening and dancing to music, and reading all my great books with mommy and daddy. My sign language skills are improving by the day, and I can even say a few words. We're all really excited that the snow is out of the yard so we can play outside now. This will be a summer of developing my outdoor skills as last year I could barely get around on my own when the snow flew.

It has been a rough winter in the Methow this year. El Nino has brought rainy day after rainy day - and although there is still snow in our yard, it has hardly been worth skiing, or sledding, or doing any other fun snow sports that we usually like to do... Oh well, I'm still super cute and like to have fun with Mommy and Daddy inside (and outside with my rain jacket on).

Some updates about me: I'm now around 14 months old, I know where my toes and my nose is, I can sign for milk from Momma, I love vacuums and brooms, and I've got quite an arm for throwing things. I've been up to a lot lately, so enjoy the updated pics and things and I'll try to get back again soon to keep you updated!
